Looks like this book is the de-facto standard. I had seen it mentioned in multiple places including a youtube instruction video on the system. It's not a large book but the information is what I was looking for. There are a number of places to get the the basics, but this book goes well past that.I'd consider myself to be an intermediate player and the included songs are challenging to me. So far I've been working on two songs and I can play them pretty well but usually still make a few mental mistakes changing chords. The songs have a number of chord transitions within some measures and working on those has been interesting. Like any instruction book, don't expect to learn the material without doing some work.

This is a cool book, however if you are looking to get in to using the nashville number system I recommend starting with the book called "Song Charting Made Easy" by Jim Riley. To me that was a better introduction and foundation to the system, and then use this book as the second step, as it has some different info and info from the other book presented in new ways.This book also includes a bunch of handwritten charts, which are much more helpful and interesting to understand and analyze after learning the core of the system from the Jim Riley book.

I bought this book because I wanted to find out what the Nashville number system was all about and how it differed from the numbers that jazz musicians commonly refer to--usually in Roman numerals. Not much difference, really. I once saw a jazz pianist coach his bassist through a live performance of an old jazz standard that the young bassist didn't know by simply flashing fingers at each chord change--and there were more than just three chords in that tune. When a jazz musician says "IV chord," he's saying exactly what a Nashville player says when he says "4 chord." It's just that they got there by different routes.I found this book fascinating, particularly as to the lengths to which Nashville-using musicians have each gone to flesh out the Nashville number system. It's a bit funny, though, because it ends up being almost as complicated as learning standard music notation, if you go the whole way. They just use different symbols for the same things--like a diamond for whole note, for example. I'm not at all sure that it really wouldn't be just as easy to become good at reading standard music notation as reading Nashville. But this book is a fascinating and fun read, particularly the various and varied actual handwritten pages of Nashville notation made by experienced musicians.

Having my leg amputated almost a year ago has dramatically changed my life. There are so many things to learn and deal with. I just finished reading 'Alive & Whole' and found it extremely helpful. It confirmed some things I suspected and gave me plenty of new things to think about. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who has undergone, or is facing, an amputation, as well as their family members. Dee's book is easy to read and has a great blend of factual information and personal accounts. I appreciate that she has first-hand experience as an amputee herself and as a nurse dealing with amputees--what a wonderful perspective. I personally found the book very helpful in understanding the personal journey I've been traveling. I will be recommending this book to others that I know.

Dee, I finished your beautifully written book! I couldn't help drawing parallels between losing a limb and loss of function on my left side due to multiple strokes. The major difference is that I still have all my fingers and toes, although, when I go for a doctor's appointment, I use a wheelchair, which elicits stigmas and stares, which I ignore. Your book was written with such loving care. It would inspire amputees to flourish as you have. It is jam packed with helpful reference points for anyone going through a loss of limb or loss of function due to brain trauma.

Great book for amputees. I've been in the "club" for 25 years and have known Dee since the start. She really helped me and many, many more amputees go down this road that nobody is prepared for. I'm so glad this book is out for all to learn from and get some tips along the way.

I would recommend this book to those who have lost a limb or limbs and those who love them. It is a good overall source of information.

I've recently become an amputee after a traumatic accident with my horse. Reading this book helped me know that many of my thoughts and questions were normal.

hubby says this is about a teenager. and he is 65 so not the same'

The book needs to address phantom sensation and didn't even mention phantom pain. This information would be very helpful. A person should not be told or shamed if the need pain medication longer than three days after an amputation. I find this statement ridiculous. More information on prosthetics, complications from the use of them would also be helpful. Going into more detail about falling and those complications would be helpful. Discussing elective amputation would be helpful. I feel this was a very light very basic summary about amputation and it's after effects. It could have been so much more. I will have to read other books for this information. I am just glad I didn't pay for this book

This is really fun. However, I wasn't sure before buying what the appropriate age group would be for it. I bought it for my smart three year old, and that was a mistake. Some of the stickers are really small, so some serious fine motor coordination is required. The child must also recognize 2- and 3-digit numbers. I will be giving it to my 7-year-old niece instead.

My husband told me about these books. His friend at work had one and he was fascinated. When I was searching for adult sticker books for him, I stumbled upon the kids version and thought it would make a nice gift. We purchased it for a 9 year old. It is perfect!There are ten designs in the book to be completed. Some are more detailed than others, but all are beautifully designed. The first one took about 30 minutes for the 9 year old, and I don’t anticipate they’d take much longer than that for the other ones.The pages are all perforated, so you can pull out the corresponding sticker page so you don’t have to flip back and forth between the design and stickers. You also can pull out the pages when done to display them if you want. The stickers are bright and colorful. They are cut precisely and we’ve had no issues with them not being the correct size. I would buy this again and look forward to using the adult sticker book we bought from this company as well.

My 6-year-old absolutely loves this book! It keeps him busy and quiet for a long time! I like that there is a bit of searching that they have to do to find where each piece goes. Kind of like a blend between a puzzle, a paint by number, and a sticker book! My almost 5-year-old loves these books too (he has a different one in the series) and he can do the pictures on his own he just takes a bit longer to find the numbers. I’ve since bought another one for a nephew and an adult one for my older two kids to share (they are 12 and 10) and they would probably be happy with the kids’ versions too I just didn’t want them to blow through them to fast! So fun!! Oh and every page is perforated making them easily removed from the book!

My kids absolutely love these sticker books. For reference, my son is 4 and my daughter is 6. My son has a pretty good attention-span for a four-year old. He finished 2-3 of these in about an hour. My daughter finished about 6 "paintings" in a few hours. What I love: helps with early childhood hand-eye coordination (you have to 'flip' the stickers around to get them in the right spot the correct way), and is an awesome learning tool for kids to practice their numbers. The numbers connect to the stickers, so you may have a sticker that is #45 and needs to go in the #45 blank spot. It can be hard for kids three and under to grasp this connection but is perfect for an advanced four year old, five year old, or six year old. The pictures end up looking really pretty as well!

I gave this to my ten year old son at Christmas. We're closing in on a month after Christmas and he has almost finished the book! To say he loves it would be an understatement. He does every page completely independently and greatly enjoys showing us the finished products. I can't remember the last time he actually finished a craft book like this.

Sturdy book - very vibrant. You can cut/tear out the pages for different kids but will need scissors to separate a couple of the groups of stickers into sheets as they used multiple pages for individual groups - but easy and simple to do. Will attach a photo of the back cover - that gives you a quick look at all 10 pages of stickers.

This is a great book! My 5.5 yo really enjoyed it, although he did get discouraged a few times when his fingers couldn't get the stickers to line up just right. It was the perfect addition to our road trip!

Well, my son got one of these books from Sam’s and it was AMAZING. He absolutely loved it. So a reward, I got him this one. I decided to see about saving a few dollars & got a “used” one. It had a couple stickers placed but that wasn’t an issue (I expected that). But for some reason the stickers aren't applying & saying very well at all. He still loves the book but get frustrated. Tape works for a few sticker issues but I think we are going to try glue in the future. I don’t know where the book was stored or if something affected the stickers or if this book was just a bad batch? The other book didn’t have any problems. What a great book to have if you've spent any time at all in the Catskill Mountains in NY state. The pictures alone are worth keeping the book on your coffee table.

In 1998 and 1999, I spent many of my free weekends in the Catskill Mountains (not too far from where I live), frantically climbing the 35 peaks required for membership in the Catskill Mountain 3500 Club.As I did, I became more and more interested in the story behind the mystical woods I had become so irrevocably attached to. I learned of this book. I could not find it, but everyone said it was the book to read, referenced in any other book about the region I could find.Finally I did (not through amazon, but what the hell ...).I could not put it down - what I had traipsed through came alive on the page, yet many years ago in time.But you needn't have earned this appreciation to enjoy this book.Evers, still going strong in his late nineties as the Town of Woodstock historian (I talked to him on the phone once) draws on his extensive training in folklore to make these mountains, America's first wilderness, come alive not just through the lives and works of its rich and powerful but most importantly in the voices of the humble people of the region - the farmers and settlers who in many cases left little to show for their efforts but their names on some feature of land somewhere.Nor is he dry ... events, whether legendary or factual, that took place centuries ago, like Peter Delabigarre's first recorded ascent of what is now known as Kaaterskill High Peak, or the Anti-Rent War's bloody climax, are related as freshly as if Evers were an eyewitness.His history also avoids any inadvertent tendency to center on one area and pass it off for the whole Catskill region. He tells the stories of Woodstock well but when he needs to go to Delaware or Sullivan counties, he does, without a hint of ignorance.And his love for the region ... in his words one can, if one has been there, place oneself amidst the fragrant balsam fir of a high summit, a place like a dream one can always return to no matter the weather or season; athwart a rippling tributary, its clear, trout-friendly waters headed for the taps of New York City, the water John Burroughs said you could live on for a few days. If you haven't experienced those things, he'll make you want to.So many of these stories - Burroughs' trampings, the construction of Ashokan reservoir, the framing of the Hardenburgh patent, Guyot's surveys - are alone worth the price of admission. You may know them already, but you'll learn so much more.My only complaint would be the last chapter, an attempt to bring the story into the late 1970s with the Temporary Commission. While this is long on facts, it betrays haste in keeping the book up to date. It lacks the semi-mythical yet assured quality of the rest of the narrative.But, if your pulse quickens at the mention of placenames like Phoenicia, West Kill, Neversink or Shinhopple; if you have ever braved the spruce ramparts of Rocky Mountain or trudged through snow in waders to cast the Junction Pool's first fly of the season, you will find your ample knowledge of the Catskills amplified a thousandfold.

This is a tremendously well-researched, well written and compelling history of the one of the most important regions in America.The Catskill Mountains are an ecological, economic and cultural region in southeastern New York State, some four million acres in size, stretching west from the Hudson River.In his sweeping history of the region, Alf Evers, a historian and life-long native of the region, touches on every aspect of the Catskills, including its legends, lore and superstitions. I purchased the first book in the series for my nephew. He enjoyed it so much that I started reading it to see what it was all about. A classic good vs. evil with empathetic characters. It might be more suited for a younger audience but what can I say.... I'm hooked! Just started the second book in the series and it just gets better. In my opinion, it's a great story to be enjoyed by all ages.

I was discouraged when I received the book. I was aware that it was 1-3 books, but I didn't expect them all to be in one book. "Great. He (my 9 y.o.) is never going to read it.", I thought.My 9 y.o. son does not like to read. He does not have the attention span for sitting around and read a book. The only time he would read is if the book has pictures (it doesn't have to be a graphic novel, but some sort of pictures to go with the story). So, when I received the Epic Zero 1-3 book, I was discouraged.However, I sat down and read the first chapter with him before bedtime to get a feel of the book and to see his reaction. To my surprise, he ENJOYED IT VERY VERY VERY MUCH. He went on and finished the book within 3 days and asked for volume 4 after that! I have since purchased the 4th book as well as downloaded the "extra" in PDF format and my son, of course, has read all of them.Epic Zero was his first book without any illustration. Thank you, R.L. Ullman for writing the whole series! You showed my son that it was possible to fall in love with a book without pictures. Please continue writing the series!!

Both my 7 year old son and I really enjoyed the Epic Zero series. Fun, fast read. Very entertaining with lots of humor. My son couldn’t put it down, and I really enjoyed the adventure too. Highly recommend!

My son and I had been reading the Harry Potter book series for the past two years, and after finishing, we’re looking for our next adventure. I came across Epic Zero, and ordered the box set. My son and I are through the first two books already, eagerly anticipating the third and last book. Elliott Harkness is a great character, along with all the friends, heroes, and villains he meets along the way. I highly recommend this box set to all!

Any time my kids beg me to keep reading, I know it's a good book. I have read aloud to them for many years and I'll continue until they ask me to stop. My kids are 11, 13, and 15 (boy, girl, boy) and they loved this set. We read all three books and my kids would have read a 4th if there had been one. My daughter was a little lost, but it's mainly because she doesn't always pay attention (she plays on her phone) so she missed key pieces of information. My boys hung on every word though and at times they were more aware of what was happening and what they thought was going to happen than I was. Kids want to be super heroes! They imagine themselves being able to fly and defeat villains. These books tell about a boy who thinks he can do nothing, but then realizes he has powers. It was funny, entertaining, and had good lessons. The bad guys lost; the good guys won. It ended well, and there wasn't any bad language (I think they said "sucks" once, but I substituted if for "stinks." Overall, we all liked it a lot!

Epic Zero is awesome! Enough said but I will elaborate. My 7 year old son is in amour with this series, we red through the entire 3 books in two weeks he couldn't get enough. He would beg not to go to bed and keep reading..."Just a little more mommy please!" I found it this enjoyable to read with my child, I love super hero myself and together we were both excited to keep reading the story. The only issue I face now is a sad child that has no more books in the series, I hope there will be more to come! This is the first book that my son has said he is going to read this entire book again. He absolutely can't get enough of Epic Zero...Please write more!

This was a very fun book, as I could understand how frustrating it would be to not have super powers. I found it interesting how the main character still managed to work things out, even without super powers.
