I really liked this convenient reference guide. I am a nursing student and thought it was pretty inclusive of the different clinical information for all life spans. The pages are wax-coated and sturdy, but the ringed binding has a tendency to come unwound with use, so I have to keep threading it. I think it would be nice if it was a ring binder that you could open and take out the cards you need for a particular area rather than keeping the whole thing in your pocket as it is pretty thick. The reason I decided to write this review, however, is because I am in my pediatric rotation, and when referencing the Pediatric Quick Reference for the average weight for a 10 y/o, it indicates 19-22kg (41.8-48.4 lbs), which is obviously underweight, and I checked the CDC growth chart to be sure. So, now I am leery of relying on any information in the booklet, esp. since I don't have enough experience to know correct/incorrect values. If I hadn't had it so long before noticing this, I would have returned it immediately.
I use this book ALL THE TIME as I'm in nursing school and in clinicals and work in the ER. It is extremely helpful when you need a brush up on something or you forgot a lab value or can't remember a step in performing some sort of critical. It has almost everything you need to know it, lab values, OD antidotes, assessment tools, procedure step by step guides like NG tube, Foley, IM, hand washing lol it even has a few critical questions to ask Spanish patients in English to Espanol translation. Highly recommend this for quick reference, whether it be school or work.
RNotes has been a lifesaver for me during nursing school. I am a second semester nursing student and use this during every clinical, as it fits perfectly in my scrub top.I would definitely recommend for nurses and student nurses!
The quality and the information in this is fine, but I have stopped carrying it with me as it's just clumsy to flip through and find exactly what you need. I think it's just quicker to stop by a computer and look up what you need to know.
There are multiple pocket guides available from the same company/author. I can't recommend them enough to nursing students. After looking at mine while in class a lot of my classmates purchased their own. I used this a lot more than my textbook.
It looks like this book will be extremely useful during nursing school. A little disappointed that my new book arrived scratched and has black gunk on it but I'll deal with it. This was a recommended book for my class and I'm glad I ordered it. It is a cheatsheet book for nursing and has a little NCLEX symbol next to things that you should know for the NCLEX. There are nice illustrations throughout and it is small enough to carry with you.
The pocket guide is great for a nursing student to review procedures, assessments, changes that occur at certain ages, trauma, medications, labs, and patient education. Some things have pictures that show how something is to be done, which is a great feature. Also, there's a little red NCLEX box to alert you that certain material has been seen on the NCLEX before. The only issue I have had with it is the lab ranges, as they were different from a text book, but that occurs with most lab ranges; just be vigilant. Otherwise, it's a great tool to use!
It is helpful for new nurses or nurses new to the medsurge nursing (I come from a psych/chemical dependancy nursing background) It also has different age groups such as peds and mother baby. I am able to brush up on procedures I have not done since nursing school!
